River City Christian School specializes in educating students with Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalcula, Asperger's Syndrome and other learning differences. River City Christian School also ministers to families and students burdened by emotional issues.

The program at River City Christian School is proven to be successful for those students who demonstrate:

  • Problems with reading, reading comprehension and/or math.
  • A sudden decline in grades, attendance, or attitude about school.
  • A history of poor organizational and study skills.
  • Lack motivation.

Students appropriate for enrollment in River City Christian School have been diagnosed with disorders and disabilities such as:

  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
    • ADD and ADHD commonly display characteristics of distractibility and impulsivity that impact time on task, attention to relevant detail, and memory or retention.
  • Learning Disabilities
    • Display a variety of difficulties evidenced in the learning process, many of them due to developmental lags. (Except those who have mild to moderate learning disabilities with some compensatory skills).
  • Dyslexia
    • Displays the inability to distinguish individual letters within a word and the impaired ability to read or understand what is read.
  • Dysgraphia
    • Displays a defective ability to write.
  • Dyscalculia
    • Displays an inability to perform arithmetic operations.
  • Asperger's Disorder
    • Displays a lack of social skills, limited ability to have a reciprocal conversation, social isolation at school having few friends.
  • Tic Disorders such as Tourette's Syndrome
    • Displays vocal tics and multiple motor tics.
  • Talking Disorder
    • Talks excessively and displays an inability to control talking.
  • Central Auditory Processing Disorder
    • Displays difficulty listening to or comprehending auditory information; reduced or impaired ability to discriminate, recognize, or comprehend auditory information.
  • *Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD)
    • Displays inability to interact socially. Students admitted with this disorder are those who have no history of aggression or violence. Must be classroom ready, must have verbal communication ability, and be able to sit for 15 minutes with redirection.
  • *Dysthymic Disorder
    • Displays chronic depression and trouble concentrating (Students admitted with this disorder must be interviewed by the school counselor and placed under contract).
  • *Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
    • Typify those who have survived traumatic events (Students admitted with this disorder must be interviewed by the school counselor and placed under contract. Student must also be in weekly professional counseling).

*Indicate students who are candidates for enrollment at River City Christian School with provisions.

The program at River City Christian School is not successful for students who have:

  • Bipolar Disorders (I or II)
  • Cylothymic Disorder
  • Emotional Disturbance (ED)
  • Psychotic Disorders (Schizophrenia, Delusional Disorder)
  • Personality Disorders (Borderline Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, Paranoid Personality Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder)
  • Major Depressive Disorder - recurrent episodes
  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
  • History of Aggression
  • History of Drug/Nicotine/Alcohol Abuse
  • Mental Retardation
  • More than three grade levels behind their age-appropriate grade
  • Are seriously visually or hearing impaired
  • Unable to care for themselves
  • Immobile students and those who need assistance climbing stairs
  • Have been placed on Lithium medication
  • Have chronic suicidal ideation
  • Self-mutilate
  • Involved in chemical abuse or who are, or were, in a chemical abuse program
  • Have engaged in threats to kill or harm a teacher or another student
  • Have been in juvenile detention or who have been convicted of a crime
  • Have been involved in the occult
